Below is a link to a presentation I gave to the Complexity and Natural System Working Groups of the International Council of Systems Engineers on Emergent Behavior. I describe the seminal model by Thomas Schelling on racial segregation and contrast his pessimistic results with the more optimistic results I obtained with my model of hiring and promoting minorities. Then I describe my model of civil unrest and the refugee crisis created by civil wars that is based on the classic natural system model called the predator-prey model.
This blog is intended to share my work on computer simulation. My computer simulation work started while I was doing my Masters degree in Information and Systems Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada in 1985. I continued doing computer simulation during my 33 years in the Centre for Operational Research in the Canadian Defence Research and Development Agency. I am currently doing computer simulation in my management consulting company Policy Dynamics Inc.
